Maciej Kwiatkowski
PHP/FullStack Programmer/Software Engineer
I've been programming in PHP (since version 4), JavaScript (+Vue), HTML, CSS, MySQL, MongoDB and Bash for over 20 years. In my work, I often use AI as a coding agent (Anthropic Claude Code and others). I'm comfortable working with Git. I have experience writing "daemons" that perform background tasks. I use Docker as my development environment. I currently work on Linux (desktop and server) and MacOS.
Work experience
Software Engineer
- KTL: Keep the lights on. Together with a multi-person international team, I keep the platform RingGo alive, mostly working with legacy codebase.
- I fix reported bugs and participate in developing new features, ensuring users have a better experience with the parking payment platform in the UK.
- I work in the Scrum methodology with two-week sprints, practicing task-based work organization and contributing to the continuous delivery of changes to the product.
- I enthusiastically use Claude Code and Copilot to assist with problem-solving, diagnostics, and bug tracking, as well as to help with workflow. I expand my AI skills daily, both through self-study and by participating in training programs.
- I actively participate in team meetings, sharing my discoveries and achievements, which enriches my team with diverse experiences.
- I attend security and cybersecurity training and take video courses in areas other than programming (e.g., Dev Ops), which translates into greater awareness of my actions and a broader range of skills.
Senior PHP Developer, Frontend Developer, Team Leader, System Administrator, Product Manager @ Unicorn Interactive
- I have worked on at least 50 projects of various scales, both small and large, for clients such as Stellantis (Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Peugeot, Opel, DS) and Yamaha Motor Poland, which allowed me to gain experience in working with demanding businesses.
- I led a team of programmers – I organized and supervised tasks, selected appropriate technologies and tools, thanks to which work on the project was carried out in an organized manner, and the projects were based on proven, yet new technologies.
- I acted as a liaison between the technical team and the business, which allowed me to develop my soft skills such as understanding, patience and assertiveness.
- I collaborated with external companies on system integration. I established communication standards and data exchange protocols, ensuring inter-application data flow.
- I introduced tools for monitoring the correct operation of applications and services, thanks to which operational problems were noticed and resolved quickly and flexibly.
- At the same time, I was actively programming – mainly in PHP, SQL, JavaScript (including Vue), Bash, slightly less in HTML, CSS – carrying out backend, frontend and automation tasks.
- I created PHP daemons responsible for asynchronous data processing, including a solution that offloaded PostgreSQL by transcoding data to MongoDB, which significantly improved the performance of end-user applications.
- For businesses, I designed and developed data aggregation and reporting tools, such as an application generating lead reports (online and XLSX files with automatic email delivery), providing dealers and management with the tools necessary to serve customers and measure the effectiveness of online advertising campaigns.
- I built and implemented Docker environments, both for development teams and for publicly available self-hosted services (I launched, among others, internal instances of the applications: YouTrack, GitLab, and Sentry), which improved team collaboration and helped organize and standardize the work of developers.
- I decided to introduce new technologies (Docker, MongoDB) or frameworks (Slim Framework) for use in projects, actively testing their usability myself, which translated into the development of the team's programmers and the use of new solutions in the created applications.
- I introduced tools for static code analysis (PHPStan, Psalm, PHP Code Sniffer) and integrated them with GitLab (CI/CD), which significantly improved the code quality and security of the created applications.
- I refactored the code using Rector – I strengthened typing, organized the project structure and gave them a more object-oriented character, which facilitated further development of the application.
- I administered Linux servers (Gentoo/Arch/Debian), automated tasks using Bash and systematically developed towards DevOps, maximizing the team's independence from external administrators.
- I advocated for minimizing technical debt, often combining this with typical programming tasks, making applications more accessible to new developers and easier to maintain.
- I participated in the company's recruitment processes: I designed tasks to be solved, interviewed candidates, introduced interns, and supervised new employees, assigning them progressively to tasks, as a result of which the current team is well-coordinated and highly competent.
IT consultant, programmer
- I manage the local company computer network (Windows computers, printers, scanners, network routers) and software.
- I manage the e-mail server.
- I created the concept and implemented an internal, web-based time registration program and a form for new clients.
- I paint, drill, hang pictures, assemble furniture, install lighting... :)
Achievements
I was maintaining a very old legacy product with numerous dependencies and ambiguities. I was investigating the causes of incorrect behavior in a multi-module application, both with and without AI support.
I optimized the performance of end-user applications by designing and implementing a PHP daemon application that reduces the load on the PostgreSQL server by periodically synchronizing selected data to dedicated collections in the MongoDB database, enabling fast reads.
I created an application in PHP and Bash for semi-automatic aggregation of lead data from multiple sources and its reporting, both in the form of an interactive online panel and periodic XLSX reports sent by email.
I was the lead technical designer (backend) of a critical ecosystem of applications for online presentation and sale of cars by dealers.
I initiated and implemented collaboration tools in the company: GitLab, YouTrack and Mattermost.
